Getting started

How long does setup actually take?

About five minutes. Connect a speaker, name your station, add one announcement, press play. Most of that time is deciding what your first message should say.

What do I need to buy?

Nothing. FrontDoorRadio plays through speakers you already own — a Bluetooth speaker, a ceiling system, or a phone plugged into a dock. If it makes sound, it works. There is no proprietary player and no installation appointment.

Do I need to be technical?

No. If you can use a smartphone you can run a station. There is no network configuration, no software to install, and nothing to keep updated.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes — 14 days free, no credit card. You only enter payment details if you decide to keep your station on air.

Your station and your messages

What is an “audio spot”?

Any piece of your own audio that plays between the music — a welcome message, today’s special, a loyalty reminder, a safety note for staff. You either record it yourself or type the words and pick a voice.

I have no idea how to make audio.

You don’t need to. Fill in the blanks — “Today’s special is ___ for ___” — choose a voice, and the spot is built for you. If you’d rather use your own voice, record straight from your phone in one take.

How often do my messages play?

You set the rotation. Most businesses run a spot every few songs, which works out to a handful an hour. You can also schedule specific spots to specific times — a lunch special that only runs at lunch.

Can I run different audio in different rooms?

Yes, that’s what zones are for. Promos on the shop floor and shift notes in the back room, playing at the same time, both managed from the same phone. Every plan includes at least two zones.

Can I change something instantly?

Yes. Update a message from anywhere and it’s on air within seconds. You don’t need to be on site.

Music and legality

Is it legal to play music in my business?

Playing music publicly in a business normally requires a public-performance licence, and consumer streaming apps like Spotify and YouTube don’t permit business use under their terms. FrontDoorRadio sidesteps this: you play your own audio plus a music library licensed for commercial use, so there’s nothing for you to clear. Full explanation here.

Can I play my own Spotify playlist through it?

No — and that’s deliberate. Streaming a personal account in a business is outside those services’ terms regardless of what software you route it through. Our library is licensed for commercial use so you don’t inherit that problem.

What kind of music is in the library?

Royalty-free tracks and beds across a range of moods — upbeat for retail, calm for waiting rooms, high-energy for gyms. It’s not chart music, and that is precisely why there’s nothing for you to license.

Can I upload my own music?

You can upload your own audio — recordings, jingles, messages you own or have permission to use. Uploading commercially released music you don’t hold rights to isn’t permitted, for the same reason the Spotify answer above applies.

Plans and billing

What counts as a zone?

One speaker area running its own station. A barbershop with music out front and shift notes in the back is two zones. A single café with one speaker system is one.

Can I cancel?

Any time, from your account, without emailing anyone. No contract, no cancellation fee. Your station keeps playing until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.

What if I need more zones later?

Change plan whenever — it applies immediately and we prorate the difference. Moving back down works the same way.

Are there setup or hardware fees?

No. No setup fee, no onboarding fee, no per-site activation, no hardware. The price on the pricing page is the price.

Practical questions

What happens if my internet drops?

Your station keeps playing. Upcoming audio is cached ahead of time, so a brief outage doesn’t create silence in front of your customers. When the connection returns, everything syncs automatically.

Does it need a computer running all day?

No. Any device with a browser that stays on and connected to your speaker will do — an old phone or tablet in a drawer is plenty.

Can I schedule different sounds for different times?

Yes. Quiet mornings, busier afternoons, a weekend promo that runs Friday to Sunday — set it once and it repeats.

How many people can manage the station?

You can give staff access without handing over billing control, so a manager can post today’s special without seeing your card details.

Still wondering how it sounds?
